This Crispy Sourdough Grilled Cheese Sandwich is the BEST. Buttery and melty with a crispy exterior and a four-cheese gourmet, ooey-gooey interior, it’s so much better than anything you’ll find at Starbucks, Dunkin or Panera.
Heat a frying pan (I love using a cast iron skillet for grilled cheese) over medium-low heat. You’ll want to get the pan warmed before you add your bread so let it heat up for a minute or two while you’re preparing your sandwich.
Butter both sides of each slice of sourdough bread.
Add your cheese to one piece of sourdough bread, layering the havarti, gouda and cheddar slices evenly across one piece of the bread. Sprinkle on the parmesan cheese, then top with the other piece of bread.
Place the sandwich in the warmed skillet and grill it on both sides until each side is a nice golden brown color and the cheese is melted through. Depending on the thickness of your cheese slices and your sourdough slices, this may take anywhere from 2-4 minutes per side.
Remove the grilled cheese from the pan and allow it to rest for a couple of minutes before slicing down the middle and serving.
