I don't know about you, but weeknight dinners at our house have started to become a bit chaotic. With both of my boys in sports, late practices, and homework to do, it's hard to get a good meal on the table, especially when we're rushing into the house at 8:00 every night.

I've been gathering simple ways to make dinner easier, and this lazy lasagna with frozen ravioli is a game-changer. (Other notable winners include this easy Air Fryer French Bread Pizza, Air Fryer Frozen Shrimp, Juicy Garlic Butter Steak Bites, Crispy Air Fryer Cod, and Quick Shrimp Pesto Pasta.) Layers of ravioli and sauce, topped with melty mozzarella and parmesan cheese, make a dish my entire family loves. And making it in the slow cooker means it's ready to go when we get home. Keep this ravioli lasagna in your back pocket for those busy nights when spending time to cook dinner isn't an option. (Pst - it's also great served alongside these easy Crescent Roll Garlic Knots!)

    Why This Recipe Works

    • Time Saver. I love a classic lasagna but don't always have the time to make it. This is the perfect family dinner for when you have a full schedule but still want to get a hearty meal on the table quickly. Using frozen ravioli is a great kitchen shortcut and means that all you have to do is layer them with the sauce and mozzarella, and then bake.  It's the perfect family meal and one of my favorite easy casseroles to make on a busy night. (Learn more ways to cook frozen ravioli!)
    • A great slow cooker recipe. You can easily turn this into a lazy crockpot lasagna to make this recipe even more hands-off. There is absolutely nothing better than turning your crockpot on in the morning and coming home to a delicious-smelling house where dinner is already prepared.  (Try this simple Buffalo Wild Wings Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta Recipe too - all made in the crockpot!)
    • Customizable. I used cheese ravioli here and a simple meat sauce, but you could use a simple tomato sauce or marinara sauce to keep it vegetarian, mix up the type of ravioli you use for different flavors, or even try an Alfredo sauce for a totally different take.
    • Delicious. The best part of this recipe is the end result. This ravioli casserole tastes just like lasagna and has a great flavor. It's an easy way to make a delicious ravioli lasagna dinner and is always a family favorite.
    • Easy to make ahead or freeze. This cheese ravioli lasagna is perfect for making ahead and freezes beautifully, making it a great option if you're looking to stock your freezer with some easy meals.

    Key Ingredients

This lazy lasagna recipe uses just 5 simple ingredients. Here's what you'll need:

ingredients for lazy lasagna with frozen ravioli
    • Your favorite pasta sauce.  Choose a flavorful sauce that will complement the ravioli you choose. You could also make your own sauce!
    • Frozen cheese ravioli. A plain cheese ravioli works well here but don't be afraid to experiment. Cheese and spinach ravioli, pumpkin, or even beef ravioli would be amazing.
    • Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Classics for a good lasagna.
    • Fresh parsley. For garnish.

    Substitutions And Variations

Want to try some different flavors in this recipe? It's super customizable! Here are some ideas:

    • Add veggies. Try throwing some freshly chopped vegetables into the pasta sauce to add some texture and flavor. Red bell peppers, onion, garlic, and spinach would all be great options.
    • Use a different type of ravioli. Cheese ravioli is a crowd-pleaser and great for picky eaters, but you could try a beef ravioli, spinach ravioli, or any other variety to make this baked ravioli lasagna unique.
    • Choose a unique sauce. Try a pumpkin sauce, a meat sauce (or use ground turkey in place of ground beef), or even an alfredo sauce for something a little different. Or, make your own homemade sauce!
    • Add some Italian sausage. Use some sweet or spicy ground Italian sausage to add some additional flavor and protein to this cheesy pasta
    • Add some extra spices. Using a pasta sauce from the grocery store? Add in a touch of Italian seasoning, some garlic powder, some dried basil, or dried thyme to punch it up a little.

How To Make Lazy Baked Lasagna With Frozen Cheese Ravioli

This is an incredibly easy recipe to make.  No messing with ricotta cheese mixtures or traditional lasagna noodles. This comes together in just minutes. Here's how to do it

casserole dish with pasta sauce at the bottom of the dish.

Step 1: Prepare your pan & preheat the oven. Heat the oven to 400 degrees F and spray a 9x13 pan with cooking spray. Add a thin layer of your pasta sauce to the bottom of the casserole dish.

Step 2: Add the ravioli. Top with a single layer of frozen ravioli.

Step 3: Add more sauce and cheese. Add another layer of sauce, then add half the mozzarella and parmesan to the top of the sauce.

Step 4: Repeat the layers and bake. Add a second layer of ravioli, a final layer of sauce, and the rest of the cheese mixture as the top layer.

Cover the lasagna with aluminum foil and bake for about 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling.

Step 5: Rest. Allow the lasagna to rest for about 10 minutes before cutting into it and serving it (this helps it to set a bit and keeps it from sliding all over the plate).

Crockpot Instructions: If you're making this easy ravioli lasagna recipe in the crockpot, repeat the steps above for the crockpot and just cook for 4-6 hours on low heat. (Note: your cooking time may vary here depending on your crockpot. Check it at about 4 hours to see how it's doing and then keep checking every 30 minutes if it's not done.)

Frozen Ravioli Lasagna Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to thaw out the frozen ravioli before using it?

Nope! You can place the frozen ravioli straight into the pan without thawing.

Can I make this ravioli lasagna ahead of time?

You bet! You can actually do this in a couple of ways. Either prepare the lasagna layers up to the point of baking, then just bake it just before dinner time, or you can bake the entire dish and reheat it when you're ready to serve.

    How do I store leftovers?

This lasagna stores beautifully and like any traditional lasagna dish, I think it's even better the next day. To store it, allow it to come to room temperature, then store it in an airtight container for up to 4 days

How do I reheat this ravioli lasagna casserole?

You can reheat the entire casserole in the oven. Just cover it with foil so the top doesn't burn, and heat it at 400 degrees F for about 50 minutes. Alternatively, you could reheat it in the microwave by heating smaller sections for about 2-3 minutes on high.

    Can I freeze this dish?

Yes! This ravioli lasagna makes a great freezer meal. Just store it in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months in the freezer. Tip: If you're a family of four, freeze the lasagna into halves. This makes it easy to just take out what you need for one dinner when you're ready to use it, rather than having to reheat the whole thing. I actually like to make the lasagna, let it sit in the fridge overnight, then cut it into halves. Allowing it to sit in the refrigerator overnight makes sectioning it off easier. You can then store the lasagna pieces in freezer-safe containers or ziplock bags.

Allow the lazy lasagna to thaw in the fridge overnight when reheating from frozen. Then reheat as directed above.

    Ingredients

    • 1 package frozen cheese ravioli around 35 oz
    • 28 oz pasta sauce
    • 2 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
    • 2 cups Parmesan cheese shredded
    • ¼ cup fresh parsley chopped

    Instructions

    • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F and coat the inside of a 9x13 casserole dish with cooking spray.
    • Add a thin layer of pasta sauce to the bottom of the prepared casserole dish. Arrange a layer of the frozen ravioli over the sauce.
    • Top the frozen ravioli with half of the remaining sauce and half of the cheese mixture.
    • Repeat the layers again, starting with the frozen ravioli. Sprinkle the top layer with Parmesan cheese.
    • Cover the casserole with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, until the lasagna is hot in the center and the cheese is bubbly and starting to brown slightly.
    • Allow the lazy day lasagna to rest for 10 minutes before cutting and serving.

    Notes

    • No need to thaw your ravioli! Simply add the frozen ravioli to the lasagna!
    • Don't skip the resting time - allowing the lasagna to rest before slicing helps it hold its shape once you serve it.

This was very easy recipe to put together. I've made it several times over the past couple of years, and it never disappoints. The only thing different is I use frozen beef ravioli instead, and boil them for about 5 min to ensure the beef is cooked. Yummy!

Came out very good, though I did cut the amount of Parmesan in half. Seemed like way too much. I added a pound of ground beef to my sauce and held about half of the sauce to serve over the finished product. Great recipe.

Been scrolling past this recipe and finally made it tonight. Added mushrooms and spinach leaves between the two layers of ravioli and baked it. Added the frozen pizza to
bake in the last 20 minutes ( because lasagne needed the last 20 minutes at 400 while the pizza needed 12-15 minutes at 425 so I baked the pizza a little longer). Both cooked at the same time and dinner went straight to the table. Thanks for this shortcut recipe.

If I prepare the lasagna layers up to the point of baking to make ahead, how do I store it? And does it affect the cook time?

You can store it in the refrigerator for a day or two and it should work just fine. No need to alter the cooking time.

I love this recipe! I've made it twice, and both times it's turned out great. The first time I used fresh ricotta and mozzarella cheese, but the second time I used frozen cheese ravioli (which is what I found at the store) and it tasted amazing.
