This 2-Ingredient Healthy Cottage Cheese Ranch Dip is not only easy to whip up but also packs a powerful protein punch, making it an ideal choice for a nutritious snack or a party appetizer. It's a high-protein, creamy dip that doesn't compromise on flavor and is perfect for fresh vegetables, crackers or chips.
If you know me, you know I'm a snacker. I like to graze throughout the day, and easy dips are my jam. Creamy Baked Spinach Artichoke Dip (No Mayo), 7 Layer Greek Dip, Spicy Guacamole - all amazing.
But being a grazer is not always good for my waistline! When I heard about this easy cottage cheese ranch dip recipe, I had to give it a try. Turns out this healthy ranch dip is a great snack - a high protein dip that goes perfectly with sliced veggies (ok, and maybe with potato chips too. I'm only human!)

Why This Recipe Works
I love this creamy ranch dip for so many reasons!
- Easy. This recipe has 2 simple ingredients and takes just a couple of minutes to blend.
- Healthy. This dip is relatively healthy. By using low-fat cottage cheese as the creamy base, you're able to cut down on unnecessary calories and saturated fats while boosting the protein content. It's a great healthy veggie dip, and the perfect after-school snack for kids.
- Flavor. I used the classic Hidden Valley Ranch Dip mix to add that classic tangy flavor of ranch dressing without the need for sour cream or cream cheese. The result? A creamy, high-protein dip that's not only delicious but also a great option if you're looking to manage your waistline!
Key Ingredients
Just two simple ingredients make up this cottage cheese veggie dip:
- Low-fat cottage cheese. The main ingredient, low-fat cottage cheese, serves as the creamy base of this dip. It not only provides a thick texture but also brings essential nutrients like protein and calcium which are great for strong bones! And, using a low-fat cottage cheese makes this great dip a low-calorie snack.
- Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning mix. The ranch seasoning mix adds the classic ranch dressing flavor to the dip without the need for additional ingredients like sour cream. I used the whole ranch seasoning packet along with 3 cups of cottage cheese. Adjust the quantity of your base or the amount of seasoning you use based on your preference for a stronger or milder ranch taste.
How To Make Creamy Cottage Cheese Ranch Dip
Making this whipped cottage cheese dip is so quick and easy, you'll be snacking in no time:
Blend. Add the cottage cheese and the full packet of dry ranch dressing mix to a food processor or high-speed blender. Pulse on high until the cottage cheese curds have broken down and the dip is nice and creamy. If the dip is too thick, just add a touch of milk until it reaches the consistency you want.
Serve. Serve the dip with your favorite veggies, crackers, pita bread, or potato chips!
Variations And Substitutions
This cottage cheese dip tastes great as is, but there are many different ways you could change it up:
- Make it creamier. For the creamiest texture, add a tablespoon of Greek yogurt or sour cream to the mixture. This variation enhances the richness without compromising the health benefits.
- Add some seasoning. Experiment with additional seasonings like garlic powder, onion powder, or black pepper to tailor the dip to your taste preferences. A little bit of chopped green onions also adds a nice touch.
- Add some fresh herbs. A tablespoon of fresh herbs, like parsley or fresh dill would add tons of flavor to this flavorful dip. You could even chop up a garlic clove and add it to the blend.
- Add a dash of lemon. Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to brighten the flavors.
Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely! While the recipe suggests low-fat cottage cheese for a healthier option, feel free to use full-fat if you prefer a richer flavor.
Note that using a full-fat cottage cheese will yield a thicker dip. If you don't like this, stick to low-fat cottage cheese, or thin the dip a bit as mentioned in the next tip.
If the texture of the dip is too thick for your taste, you can thin it out a bit with a little milk, a tablespoon of water, greek yogurt, or even sour cream. Just add a little at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
Note that as the dip sits in the refrigerator, it will naturally thicken up a bit. If this becomes too thick for you, simply add in a splash of milk and stir it well before serving.
Store the dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The dip is really only as good as your cottage cheese, so, be mindful of the "best by" date on your cottage cheese packaging. Once that expires, your dip is probably done too.
Mix well before serving if any separation occurs and add a little bit of milk if the dip becomes too thick in the refrigerator.
Aside from the classic fresh veggies and cracker pairing, try using it as a salad dressing, sandwich spread, or even as a topping for baked potatoes.
Certainly! If you find the ranch flavor too strong, add more cottage cheese (or sour cream or plain yogurt) gradually until it suits your taste.
Either! The dip packet is meant to make the consistency a bit thicker so know that if you use it, you'll have a slightly thicker consistency than if you just use regular ranch dressing. However, you can always thin the dip as stated above by adding a little bit of milk to the mixture and giving it a good stir.
Some people also think the dip packet has a bit stronger "dill" taste than the classic ranch dressing, so keep that in mind if you choose to use the dip mix over the classic ranch seasoning packet.
Feel free to experiment a bit and use whatever your favorite brand of ranch seasoning is. I used Hidden Valley Ranch, but have also used grocery store brands in the past with equal success.
This creamy veggie dip is a delicious way to indulge in your snacking vice without compromising flavor. With its high-protein content and creamy texture, it's a great option for game day, parties, barbecues, or any time! I love this high-protein recipe and love eating it with baby carrots, cucumbers, and sliced bell peppers.

I just made your Ranch Dip using what I had on hand. I made 1/2 recipe using fat free cottage cheese and a couple of Tbsp. plain Greek yogurt (whole milk) and added a small amount of green onions, minced garlic and ground pepper. This is going to work well as a dip and also as a salad dressing.

Ooh - love using this as a salad dressing!

Really good! The texture is better than a normal runny dip, too. Thanks for the idea.
