You can whip up these spooky strawberries in no time (just about 10 minutes). The result is not only delicious but also visually stunning.
- A great recipe for kids! This is a fun and interactive activity to involve the whole family. My kids love dipping the strawberries and adding the candy eyes. It's such a fun way to get everyone into the Halloween spirit.

Ingredients
Here are the simple ingredients you'll need to make these adorable spooky chocolate strawberry treats:
- Strawberries. Try to use the freshest strawberries you can, and look for medium to large sized strawberries. This will make it easier to
- Melted chocolate. I used candy melts since they melt so easily, but you could also use chocolate chips if those are easier for you to find. I love dark chocolate with strawberries and because I was keeping these super simple, that's what I used. But feel free to experiment with milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate chips, or white chocolate. There are also loads of colors of candy melts if you'd like to get more creative with different types of "creatures"!
- Candy Eyes. Smaller candy eyes are easier to adhere to these strawberries. Choose the same size or different sizes for a fun silly take.
How To Make Easy Halloween Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Now, let's get into the step-by-step instructions to create these delicious Halloween treats:
- Preparation: Start by washing and thoroughly drying all the strawberries. It's crucial to have them completely dry to ensure the chocolate sticks properly. You'll also want to prepare a baking sheet by placing wax paper, or a reusable baking mat (silicone) on it so that the chocolate covered strawberries won't stick to the pan. (Avoid parchment paper here as it tends to stick a bit to the strawberries.)
- Melt the Chocolate: There are a few ways to melt the chocolate. You can choose the method that works best for you:
-In a saucepan, over low heat.
-Using a double boiler.
-In the microwave, place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 20-second increments, with a good stir in between until melted.
Whichever method you choose, use a rubber spatula to stir the chocolate as it melts.
- Dip the strawberries: Carefully dip each strawberry in the dark melted chocolate. You can use a piping bag or simply hold the top of the strawberry by the stem and dip it into the chocolate (this is what I did). Make sure to let any excess chocolate drip off. Dip one strawberry at a time, then add your candy eyes immediately.
- Add the candy eyes: Immediately after dipping each strawberry, press two candy eyes into the chocolate. This is a crucial step, as the chocolate hardens quickly, and you want the eyes to stick securely. Finish dipping the remaining strawberries in the remaining chocolate, adding the candy eyes as you go. Place all the chocolate covered strawberries onto a prepared baking sheet.
- Chill the strawberries: Place the tray of Halloween chocolate-covered strawberries in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes to allow the chocolate to harden.
- Storage: Store your spooky strawberries in an air-tight container for 4-5 days. This makes them a great make-ahead option for Halloween parties or as a daily treat during the Halloween season.
Variations and Substitutions
While the basic recipe for these fun treats is delicious, you can get creative with variations and substitutions to suit your preferences and dietary needs. Here are some ideas to consider for these easy halloween strawberries:
- Chocolate choice. Experiment with different types of chocolate, like dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or white chocolate. You can even use orange chocolate for a Halloween twist.
- Decorations. Get playful with other edible decorations like black sprinkles, red pearl sprinkles, or small white circular sprinkles to add more Halloween-themed elements.
- More creatures! You can make all sorts of cute little halloween strawberries - strawberry ghosts using white candy melts, black widow spider using white and black candy melts and a piping bag, pumpkins using orange colored chocolates, or even mummy strawberries, using white chocolate in piping bags to make mummy bandages.
- Candy eyes alternatives. If you can't find candy eyes, you can make your own by using small pieces of pretzels and adding a tiny dot of white chocolate in the center.
- Food coloring. If you want to add a splash of color to your strawberries, you can use gel food coloring to tint the white chocolate with Halloween colors like orange and green. (Alternatively, you can also look for colored candy melts in the baking or food decorating aisle of the grocery stores.)
Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely! These strawberries can be prepared a day or two ahead of your Halloween party. Just store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator until you're ready to serve.
These are also super portable, so they're easy to take with you to a school party or other fun Halloween party.
If the chocolate hardens before you can add the eyes, you can just re-dip the strawberry again, then add the candy eyeballs. Using room temperature strawberries (vs. strawberries straight from the refrigerator) slows down the hardening time a bit as well, making it easier to add your candy eyes quickly.
You can use regular food coloring, but keep in mind that gel food coloring is more concentrated, so you may need to use more liquid food coloring to achieve the desired color.
Make sure the strawberries are completely dry before dipping, and avoid storing them in a humid environment. The air-tight container will also help maintain their freshness.
It's best to use fresh strawberries as frozen strawberries might release excess moisture during the dipping process.
These Easy Halloween Chocolate Covered Strawberries are a must-try for this spooky season. They're simple to make, incredibly delicious, fairly healthy, perfect for little hands, and a super cute addition to your Halloween party spread. Whether you're hosting a Halloween bash or just looking for fun, festive treats to enjoy with the family, these chocolate-covered strawberries are a great way to celebrate. Get creative with different chocolate types and decorations, and you'll have as much fun making them as you will devouring them.
