5-Minute Homemade Boom Boom Sauce is a spicy mayonnaise-based sauce, that gets its sweet tang from sweet chili sauce and its spiciness from sriracha and spices. It's incredibly easy to make, super delicious, and is one of my favorite dipping sauces for crispy fries, chicken tenders, or even drizzling over a salad or tossing with fried shrimp!
Friends, today you're in for a treat! I love this Boom Boom Sauce so much and want to put it on EVERYTHING!
What is Boom Boom Sauce, you ask? It's a creamy, sweet, and just a little bit spicy sauce that goes amazingly well with pretty much anything you want to dip into it: french fries, chicken tenders, kabobs, chicken wings, fried fish, shrimp - you name it.
Similar to bang bang sauce or yum yum sauce (but not quite the same - they all have slightly different ingredients), boom boom sauce is the perfect dipping sauce for almost anything and is even great drizzled over dishes or spread onto sandwiches.

Why I Love This Recipe
Let me tell you why this delicious sauce recipe has become one of my favorite sauce recipes and has earned a permanent place in my heart:
- So delicious! I love the sweet and spicy combo that the sweet chili sauce, sriracha garlic, and onions create.
- Versatile. This homemade sauce makes a fantastic dipping sauce for everything from french fries to sweet potato fries to shrimp tacos, or even as a salad dressing for an extra kick of flavor. One of my favorite ways to use this spicy sauce is by tossing it with fried seafood. I love adding it to tempura shrimp for a crispy, sweet, and spicy boom boon shrimp dish.
- Easy to make. Did I mention it takes just 5 minutes to whip up? It's the perfect solution for when you need a delicious sauce in a pinch.
Key Ingredients
Just a few simple ingredients make up this boom-boom sauce. Here are the star players:
- Mayo. Provides the base of this creamy sauce. Feel free to use low-fat mayonnaise here if you're looking to make this lower-calorie.
- Sweet chili sauce. Adds a sweet and tangy flavor with a hint of heat.
- Sriracha sauce. Gives the sauce its signature spicy kick.
- Ketchup. Adds a touch of sweetness and acidity.
- Garlic powder and onion powder. For that garlicky and savory undertone.
- Salt, cayenne pepper, and black pepper. To season and add depth of flavor.
How To Make Boom-Boom Sauce
Making this dipping sauce couldn't be easier and takes just five minutes! Here's how to make this flavorful sauce:
- Combine everything. In a small bowl, combine mayo, sweet chili sauce, sriracha sauce, ketchup, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, cayenne pepper, and black pepper.
- Mix. Mix well with a spoon until all the ingredients are fully incorporated and the sauce is smooth and creamy.
- Adjust. Taste and adjust seasonings according to your preference.
- Serve or store. Serve immediately, or transfer the sauce to an airtight container and refrigerate until ready to use.
Variations And Substitutions
This sauce is great as is, but if you're looking to mix it up a bit, here are some variations you can try.
- Make it vegan. For a vegan version, use vegan mayonnaise instead of regular mayo.
- Add some mustard. Add a teaspoon of Dijon mustard for an extra flavor boost.
- Sweeten it up. For a sweeter version, add a drizzle of honey or maple syrup.
- Adjust the spiciness. This really is a mild sauce, even with the sriracha. Experiment with the spice level by adding different hot sauces and adjusting the level of spiciness to your liking.
Frequently Asked Questions
This sauce does have a slightly spicy kick, but it really is on the milder side and the sweetness from the sweet chili sauce and the ketchup balance the spicy sriracha nicely. If you're spice-averse, try reducing the amount of sriracha sauce you use, or even upping the mayo ration a bit to give it a milder flavor.
Absolutely! This sauce actually tastes better after it's had some time for the flavors to meld together. Just be sure to store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
If you're looking to make this a bit spicier, add a bit of hot sauce to the mix. Or, adjust the ratio of sriracha/sweet chili sauce and ketchup to add a bit more sriracha.
You can store the leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
It should last in the refrigerator for up to a week, although it's so delicious that it probably won't last that long!
