This summer is all about easy at our house and nothing could be easier than this delicious summery burrata salad. In fact, it’s so easy, my 7-year-old can make it in about 5 minutes!
We ate this salad alfresco a few evenings ago and it was the perfect summer side dish, paired with a good glass of sparkling white wine.
Why This Burrata Salad With Sweet Cherries And Hot Honey Is THE BEST!
I love this simple salad. Here's why!
- So easy to make. There's barely any prep to making this salad apart from pitting the cherries, which is super easy if you have a cherry pitter.
- No baking involved. A full meal where I don't have to turn on my oven? Sold!
- Quick. This salad can be made in less than 15 minutes.
- Great for summer. This salad just tastes like summer, and the creamy burrata cheese gives it luxe texture and taste.
- Portable! This salad is easy to transport to your next gathering.
What's In It?
The beauty of this salad is that it's such a simple recipe with few ingredients, but it's exploding with flavor! Here's what you'll need.
- Burrata cheese. Try to find your best, freshest, and creamiest burrata for this salad since it really does make the dish.
- Cherries. Both tart and sweet at once, cherries add a brightness to the dish.
- Basil. For a little bit of an earthy taste.
- Hot Honey. The sweet and spicy taste of the hot honey truly brings out all the other flavors and compliments this salad so well!
How To Make This Easy Burrata Salad
- Slice your Burrata. Start with some fresh and creamy burrata cheese. I used 2 large balls of burrata and just sliced them into quarters. This was plenty for our family of four but if you’re serving for a larger crowd, go ahead and double the recipe.
- Next, pit and halve the cherries. (This is the most time-consuming part of this recipe, although a cherry pitter makes this step so much easier!) Add the cherry halves strategically around the burrata, shoving them into all the nooks and crannies.
- Chop up your basil. Grab a handful of fresh basil (about ¼ cup) and tear it into pieces before sprinkling it over the cheese and cherries.
- Add the hot honey. Finally, drizzle some hot honey over the entire dish to add just a little spice and complexity to the combination of flavors. (I love Mike’s Hot Honey, but you can also make your own if you have some extra time and the inclination.)
This burrata salad recipe tastes best when served immediately, but if you’re preparing in advance, wait to add the basil and honey until just before serving, and keep the cheese and cherries covered in the fridge. This will keep the basil from getting too soggy and will keep your honey from falling to the bottom of the salad.
Tips For Making The Best Burrata Salad
- Serve immediately. This salad is best served right away, since the burrata tends to get a little milky if left out for a while.
- Don't omit the honey! If you're not a spicy person and the hot honey is a bit too much for you, substitute it with regular honey. The added sweetness and texture really adds to this dish.
- Sub in different herbs or greens. I love the taste of basil, but you could also use other herbs such as oregano or mint, or even arugula for this burrata salad.
How To Pit Cherries - The Easy Way!
Anyone who's tried to pit cherries with a knife knows this is a time consuming process. It's enough to make anyone forego the whole thing. But, there is an easier way! Using a cherry pitter is obviously the easiest way to pit cherries, but if you don't have one, don't fret. You can create your own homemade cherry pitter with just a bottle and a chopstick.
To pit cherries this way, gather a clean bottle with a small opening at the top (an individual soda or water bottle works great for this), and a chopstick. Chopsticks that have more of a pointed end work best for this.
Step 1: Place the cherry on the top of the bottle, with the seam side of the cherry facing down.
Step 2: Use the chopstick to press through the cherry and into the bottle. This should push the pit right through the cherry and into the bottle.
And that's it! Much easier than using a knife to cut out each and every pit!
